On a very cold, but sunny day, we went to the wetland. People and birds were all happy with the weather.

Cold, but Sunny Day
"We all like the weather. It's nice and warm."
(Pied-billed Grebe: From the left, second and fifth)
"We do, too."
(Green-winged Teal: second from the right)
"I can see a fish a lot easier."

On a Cold Day
Last week we stopped over at the wetland. On a clear day, we could see Mt. Hood from thereππ.
It was sunny, but the air had been cold. Most of the birds must be staying somewhere warmer.ππ
American Coot, etc.: "We stay together around the corner
to keep our body temperature warm on a cold dayπππ."
Cacking Geese: "It has warmed up some, so I can swim nowπππ."

The Wetland Scene
The other day we stopped over at the wetland nearby only to find the road closed.
Due to the heavy rain we had a few days earlier, it was flooded again to our surprise.
Before the flooding, we walked around the reservoir and found many Cackling Geese.
"Today is sunny. We always stay together and get along well.π"
During the winter months, American Coots stay here all the time.
"Take a good photo of me todayπ. "
I found a Ruby-crowned Kinglet this time.π (I usually see one in my backyard.)
"I move super fastπ¨π¨π. Not many people can take a photo of me."

After Many Days of Rain
After a few weeks of rainy days, we returned to the wetland. Just like people, birds are happy to be in the sun.
"Now we can fly around without getting drenched."
"A Canada Goose and an American Coot can be friends together."
"I am a male Green-winged Teal."

Big Foot
At the flooded nature preserve last week, I saw a couple of American Coots. Before I always saw them swimming, but today they were out of the water. Their feet are rather big.
"Yeah, we got big feet."
Back at my backyard.
Gray Squirrel: "I got a big tail."
Bewick's Wren: "I got a big mouth."

Happy New Year from Waterfowls in Oregon
After nearly 3 weeks of rain, we returned to the wetland. We found many waterfowls in the reservoirs.
"Hi, we are American Wigeons."
As last year, many American Coots were there. I noticed they often liked to run on water.
"We are good at running on the water. Look!"
In another pond, we saw many Northern Pintails.
"Look at my beautiful pintail."

Close to Spring
After a few weeks, we stopped over at the wetland. Mostly waterfowl were around.
"I am an American Coot. I have pretty red eyes."
Canadian Geese are everywhere. Instead of flying around in big flocks, they were diving to find food.
"We feel like eating fish today. "Wish me luck."
There were not many little birds, but a Song Sparrow was curious about me.
"Nice to see you again."

Winter Scene#2
Last week the wetland was flooded, but today the water has receded. A couple of red camellias are in bloom.
An American Coot was busy diving to get the weeds for breakfast.
The Northern Pintails were paddling in the cold water.
At the far end of the reservoir, a dozen of Trumpeter's Swans were just waking up. About 10 days ago, I saw them flying over my house, so I was hoping they would be here for a while.

Late Spring Scene at the Wetland
After several months, we returned to the wetland nearby. By then the sun has dried up the muddy trail. The construction of a garden area at one corner is almost finished.
We saw a Canada Goose family with one month old goslings.
Tree Swallows have arrived from the south to spend summer in Oregon.
Brewer's Blackbird had a mouthful of bugs, ready to take home.
American Coots were swimming and eating along the shoreline.
Peaceful scenes filled the wetland.
