A Summer Bird Visit

The summer heat has arrived here:  95-100 degrees F for a week or two.

The Honey Bees and Bumble Bees have been busy collecting the nectar from my flowers.

Another summer visitor just showed up a week ago.

"Hi, I am a young Vesper Sparrow."

"I have no problem finding food here."

Another Returnee

The weather in June is filled with showers here.  On the fuchsia flowers, the raindrops are not quite dry yet.

The other day, I noticed another summer bird.

"Hi,  I am back again.  Do you remember me?"

"I am a Vesper Sparrow with a white eye ring, 

black patches around the ear, the streaked 

front, and the white edge on the tail feathers."

More Summer Birds

When you look up in the sky in the morning or evening this month, you may have noticed many swifts flying around.  They are Vaux's Swifts, a summer bird in Oregon. 

 

As their name indicates, they are really a speedy bird.

 

 

Here he comes.  He/she is so fast that my camera lens can't focus well.

 

 

Today another summer friend just arrived here in my backyard.

 

"I am a Vesper Sparrow.  I just flown in all the way from Mexico. 

I have a white eye ring and white outer tail feathers."

 

 

"Also, I have pretty streaking front.  Don't mix me up

with an Oregon Junco as my Backyard owner did."

 

 

 

 

 

Vesper Sparrow - Another Summer Bird

Early in the morning, up in the still dark sky, the Venus was shining bright.

Down below, the dawn was approaching.

One or two birds, already awake, made short trills,  announcing the beautiful day.


Later in the morning I found one bird on one of the seed feeders.  As I came closer, it did not fly away and instead was enjoying the morning sunshine.

This is Vesper Sparrow,  a summer bird around here.  It looks like a House Sparrow, but if you look closer, you will find it has white eye ring, white outer tail feathers, and dark ear patch .  This looks like a young one with soft feathers showing.

The sunshine is cozy early in the summer morning.  Having the wings spread to clean out the feathers.

In the evening, I found the first red tomatoes half hidden in the vines.   And green beans, and the last batch of blueberries.
