A purple crocus is now in bloom.

Winter birds are still around in the backyard.

"I am one of them."😁

A New Mirrorless Camera

After many rainy days, the sky is clear and blue.

After many years, I wanted to try a mirrorless camera (very light weight and good for old folks).  The zoom is less than my old 300mm, but in reality it is better and focus easily.  😮😊🎀

"You can see me BETTER."😊🪽🪿🦆🦅

"Wow,  I can see you good, too, on a clear day."😁👍🎁🎄

The Best Food for Winter

During the cold months, birds need to warm up their body more.  The suet can help.

"I like it.  It comes in a variety of flavor."😉

" We are  Black-capped Chickadee, Red-breasted Nuthatch,
and Chesnut-backed Chickadee.
 We all agree on that."😄

"Before coming here, I did not eat it.  But seeing all my friends eating the suet, I decided to try it.  I learned to like it." 👍

Red Leaves are Here

The leaves are changing the color.

"I like the red leaves.  It is the season for suet munching."😉

"We see the red blueberry leaves.  But where is the suet?  Our favorite."🤔

"I do not like the suet.  I'd rather eat the seeds on the ground."👍

Winter Friends

When it is getting cold,  the winter birds stop by here.

Chestnut-backed Chickadee:  "I am one of them."😄

"I 'm busy checking my back.  Guess who I am."☺️

Ruby-crowned Kinglet:  "I am back.  I like your suet."😍

Answer:  #2 photo is Red-breasted Sapsucker.  Maybe once a year, I may see him in my backyard.

Bright Ruby

Almost everyday a Ruby-crowned Kinglet comes to eat the suet.

"The suet gives me energy during the cold months."😊

"You can see this bright crown today."😉☘️

"I won't show you often.  This is a very special day."😁

Global Warming

This winter is warm and short.  We had only one snowfall, which melted away quickly.

"It is getting warm here. " 🌷🌸😄

"I can eat bugs in the air.  I do not eat the suet on a nice day."🪰🐛

"I always like to eat the suet all the year around."😁☮️

Snow Day

Last two days we had snow and ice.  Many offices were closed and I had to cancel my medical appointment.  The bird bath had 1 inch of snow in the backyard.

Birds are busy trying to find something to eat when snowing.

Yellow-rumped Warbler:  "I am hungry."

Ruby-crowned Kinglet:  "I waited for snow to stop."

Anna's Hummingbird:  "I am avoiding  the wind."

One Sunny Day

Even on a cold day, some little birds are around at the wetland.

Anna's Hummingbird, male:  "Yes.  I am one of the tough little birds."👍

Ruby-crowned Kinglet:  "Me, too."😎

Red-tailed Hawk:  "I am big and tough!"🌞🦅

The Suet Cake

A Ruby-crowned Kinglet visits my backyard everyday in winter.

Why?

"I see my favorite food."

"Squirrels eat the suet all the time, but they drop
 little crumbs everywhere."

"Now, I finally can eat from the feeder."

Wet and Dry Weather

Too much rain over the holidays.

House Finch, female and male: "Can you see the rain falling?"🌧️

Ruby-crowned Kinglet:  "Can you see the rain drops on the branch?"🌦️

Chestnut-backed Chickadee:  "This week will be dry and sunny.  Yeah!"👀☀️🌞

New Year's Greeting

Soon it will be 2025.  Time flies very fast (faster when retired).

"Happy New Year to all my friends."🌞

"I am soaring higher to bring peace for the coming year."🦅👍
Next year's zodiac will be 🐍.

Fall is Red

After Halloween, it was very dark.   Now that the winter time started yesterday, I feel better.  Maybe birds may feel the same?

More birds come and visit in the backyard with the cold temperature outside.

"I am back when the leaves change to red."

"I am here all the time for the suet and peanuts."

"I munch on the suet, too.  I am very small and swift."

Summer Temperature in March

Last several days, it has been warm like early summer.  Wild flowers began to bloom at the wetland.

Quite a few Golden-crowned Sparrows are around here during the cold months.

"I like to nibble the fresh spring buds."

"I am a Ruby-crowned Kinglet.  I returned from the backyard."

"We are Tundra Swans and staying here for a little
while before going to Alaska."

Little Birds

If you see a bunch of little birds floating around a feeder, they are Bushtits.  The first time when I saw them many years ago, I did not know what they were.  They looked  liked cotton balls floating in the air.

"We like to hang around together in the winter months;
in the warm months, we will be with only a few."😁

Chestnut-backed Chickadee: "I come here during the cold months.  Sometimes
I fly around with Bushtits for safety."👀👍

Ruby-crowned Kinglet: "I can fly with them to hide so that Juncos do not pick on me."😓🤩
