and I have to improve on the hunting skill."  πŸ‘

" Me, too.  I am getting better at it."πŸ˜‹☺️

The Best Food for Winter

During the cold months, birds need to warm up their body more.  The suet can help.

"I like it.  It comes in a variety of flavor."πŸ˜‰

" We are  Black-capped Chickadee, Red-breasted Nuthatch,
and Chesnut-backed Chickadee.
 We all agree on that."πŸ˜„

"Before coming here, I did not eat it.  But seeing all my friends eating the suet, I decided to try it.  I learned to like it." πŸ‘

October Already

The time passes fast.  It is already October.

"All the summer visitors are gone, but I stay here all the time."

"I am back from the woods, stay here for a month
maybe, and take off to the coast where it will be a bit warmer in winter."

"I stay here all the time."

The Two Kinds of Chickadees

The backyard is pretty with colorful leaves.  The Black-capped Chickadee was picking up the old rose petals.

"These petals may taste good.  Don't you thinkπŸ˜…?"

The Chestnut-backed Chickadee has returned to my backyard.

"I come here often to nibble the delicious suetπŸ˜‹."

"I am a regular visitor here for the winter months😍."

All the Year Around

It is getting cold in the morning.  But when it warms up,  more birds come and visit here.

"I still prefer the fresh flowers.  Soon I have to switch to the sugar water."

Black-capped Chickadees are busy eating seeds at the feeder.

"I like the seeds, especially the roasted sunflower seeds."

Oregon Juncos are here all the year around.

"I like them, too.  I also eat the suet when I can jump to the feeder."

The Cold Temperature for Another Week

The northern cold wind still blows down here.  It is to stay here for another week.  We are back in winter at this time.

Despite of this, the blueberry flowers are beginning to bloom.

My dwarf pear tree almost finished blooming.   I hope there will be some pears this summer.

"Now I look for a bug around here."

I have several birdbaths in the backyard.

"After my meal, I can quench my thirst."

Meeting at the Feeders

In the spring, birds are busy.  They often meet each other at the feeder.

Bewick's Wren to Downy Woodpecker:  "Good to see you.  You are my suet friend."

Black-capped Chickadee to Bewick's Wren:  "I am first.  Just wait a minute."

Yellow-rumped Warbler (left):  "When are you leaving for the woods?"
Townsend's Warbler:  "Not yet.  I love the suet here."

The First Snow

The first snow fell the other day here in town.

"I like snow."

"Thanks to the backyard owner, I can
find food even on a snowy day."

"I don't like snow.   I am happy to see it gone!"

Everyday Visitor

The first winter storm in Oregon came and dumped enough snow.  The ski hill is now open.

Winter is the best time of the year to watch birds.   Except the evergreens, most of the trees are

now bare.  It is easy to see birds.

"I come here everyday."

"I come here everyday, too.  I like the suets and
 seeds.  Sometimes the hummingbirds
chase me, but it's ok for fun."

"We come here everyday of the year."

The Backyard Friends

I planted sunflowers late, so finally mine are in bloom.  Squirrels and birds have been waiting for the sunflower seeds.

The bushtits are back in a flock.

"We are back to a backyard."

The Black-capped Chickadees are also back.

"Yeah, everyone is coming back here for winter."

Similar, but Different

In the past three kinds of Chickadees have visited here.  They are Black-capped Chickadees, Chestnut-backed Chickadees, and Mountain Chickadees.  But most of  time I see the first two here.  The last one visits here only when they can not find  enough food in the mountains.

"Hi, I am black-capped Chickadee.  I live here
nearby and come here everyday."

"Can you see my chestnut color on the back?
I am a little smaller than the black-capped."

I have seen the Mountain Chickadees only one winter and it has been several years since.

New Year Scene

There are plenty of birds in my backyard.

Every two weeks I change the sugar water for hummingbirds.  Here is a male Anna's Hummingbird.

"Happy New Year from a bright headed one."

"HNY from me, too."

"HNY from a little quicky."

"HNY from a busy masked girl."

HNY on a rainy day.  The day is longer now.
Chinese Lunar New Year will be next month."
