 Lately, it has been sunny and cold.❄️🥶

Oregon Junco:  "I like the cold weather."🤗

Yellow-rumped Warbler:  "When I can not find a bug 

in the field, I always show up here for the suet."☺️

Chestnut-backed Chickadee :  "Me, too.  I like your suet."👍

The Best Food for Winter

 During the cold months, birds need to warm up their body more.  The suet can help.

"I like it.  It comes in a variety of flavor."😉

 

" We are  Black-capped Chickadee, Red-breasted Nuthatch, 

and Chesnut-backed Chickadee.

 We all agree on that."😄

 

"Before coming here, I did not eat it.  But seeing all my friends eating the suet, I decided to try it.  I learned to like it." 👍

Regular Resident in My Backyard

 In the beginning of autumn, I noticed a family of Oregon Junco in my backyard.

"I am still busy raising my kids."😊🌻

"I am a good dad."😉🤩

"Sometimes I take a rest up on a branch."😄👍

Busy Backyard Friends

 My backyard is still busy.

"I live here.  I love the cold weather." Oregon Junco😉

"I come here everyday, too." Black-capped Chickadee😁

"This winter has been warm, so I am still here.  

On a nice day, I can take a bath." Golden-crowned Sparrow👍

Winter Time

 The winter time arrived here.  

Oregon Junco, male: "It is the rainy season here."😉

Oregon Junco, female:  "The sun comes out once in a while."👍

Ruby-crowned Kinglet:  "I am hiding.  I come here to eat the suet."😁

Camelia and Pear Blossoms

 My camelia is finally blooming in the backyard.

Pear Blossoms are in bloom, too.  Many birds like the nectar or the petals.

"I am a male House Finch.  We are visiting this neighborhood."

"Hi, I am a female House Finch.  I am visiting with an Oregon Junco."

"Hi, I am a Red-breasted Nuthatch.  I'd rather eat the suet here."

All the Year Around

 It is getting cold in the morning.  But when it warms up,  more birds come and visit here.

"I still prefer the fresh flowers.  Soon I have to switch to the sugar water."

Black-capped Chickadees are busy eating seeds at the feeder.

"I like the seeds, especially the roasted sunflower seeds."

Oregon Juncos are here all the year around.

"I like them, too.  I also eat the suet when I can jump to the feeder."

On a Snowy Day

 On a snowy day,   many Oregon Juncos visit my backyard.

"I know where I can find my breakfast.👍👍😃"

"Me, too.  I can find my favorite suet here.💪😄😋"

Bushtits come in a big flock in winter.

"Munch, munch, this is the best suet in the neighborhood.😊😍😁"

Pretty Junco

We had several days of rain and hails.☂

When the air became all clear,  Oregon Junco came to visit my backyard👍.

Junco, female:  "I like the sunny morning.😄😄"

Junco, male:  "What a nice day!😊"

Snow Birds

Since Christmas, it has been below the freezing.

We had to cancel a trip to the reservoir to see birds.  

"I know where to find food on a snowy day."

"So  do I.  Here it is."

"No worry.  We'll survive."

 

The First Snow

 The first snow fell the other day here in town.

"I like snow."

"Thanks to the backyard owner, I can 

find food even on a snowy day."

"I don't like snow.   I am happy to see it gone!"

Everyday Visitor

The first winter storm in Oregon came and dumped enough snow.  The ski hill is now open.

Winter is the best time of the year to watch birds.   Except the evergreens, most of the trees are

now bare.  It is easy to see birds.

"I come here everyday."

"I come here everyday, too.  I like the suets and

 seeds.  Sometimes the hummingbirds

chase me, but it's ok for fun."

Oregon Junco with White Dots

Sometimes the nature does strange things.

In the past I saw an Oregon Junco with whitish dots.  Their genes are a little different.  Yesterday I saw one like that.

"Hi, I do not come here often. But please do 

not discriminate against me because of my looks."

"I am just like any Junco, but have some white dots 

over the dark part.  In fact, I do think I am quite pretty."

Fall Rain

 Several days ago we had some measurable rain.   The ground was wet and so with the flowers.

More birds have returned to my backyard.

Oregon Juncos stay here most of the year and like the cold weather.   Only during the very hot months, they will retreat to the woods.  Now that the temperature has cooled, a several of them returned.

Oregon Junco, male:  "I like the fall weather.  It gets 

hot but it will be cold during the night."

Oregon Junco, female:  "I like the cool weather.  We are back."

More Snow Scene

 Beautiful birds on a snowy day:

"I am the best one with snow."

"Not really, I bet I am."

"I know I am.  All the viewers would agree with me."

Cold Spring

The second flower this spring.  Purple crocus.

Daffodil buds are forming.   Comparing with last year's photos, I can tell last spring was warmer.

Oregon Juncos always love the cold weather.

"We are made tough."

Many American Robins are flying around early in the morning.  Soon they will come down to peck on the worms in the lawn.

"I will be hunting worms soon."
