Backyard Friends in Winter

 In my backyard, the winter friends have returned.  

Lesser Goldfinch: "we come here during the winter months.😋"

Northern Flicker: "I am a regular visitor during the cold months, too😊."

Ruby-crowned Kinglet:  "I come here whenever I can sneak in."

(The Backyard Owner:  I see Oregon Juncos often chase out the Ruby-crowned Kinglet😥😥.)

More Waterfowl

Finally rain returned to Oregon this week.  Yesterday the temperature remained below 50 F all day.  

At the wetland before this weather change, birds were still enjoying the warm fall weather.  

Lesser Goldfinch:  "I just cannot believe this warm temperature this time of the year.💦"

Song Sparrow: "Me, too.  I need to hide from the hot sun💦."

But the waterfowls are now arriving here for the winter months.

Here comes Common Mergansers at the big reservoir.

"We finally returned here.  The weather will get cold any time.😅😁"

Winter Scene at the Wetland

 Lately it rained often.   At the wetland, the flowers are gone, but Lesser Goldfinches still like to feed on the seeds.

"The seeds are wet, but they still taste good for me."

The winter time is the season for waterfowl.  A couple of Northern Shovelers arrived here.

"We always stay here during the cold months."

With a loud shrill, a Pileated Woodpecker appeared right in front of me so close that my camera could not focus in time.   

"I was so scared to see a human in front 

of me that I quickly climbed up the tree."
