Now Robin Returned.

Cabbage Patch Butterflies are still around.  They like the leftover lavenders. 🦋

American Robins returned to my backyard.

"I found food here."🪰🐜🪱

The other day, a male Robin brought a young one for bathing here.

"My kid now knows how to get cleaned.  

Don't you think I taught him good?"🥰😁👍

Summer Days

 My backyard was heating up for a week.  But finally it cooled down and is just right for summer.  A couple of cabbage patch butterflies visit here often.  Their favorite is the lavender.

"Sweet juice."😋

Western Scrub-jay:  "I still like the suet."😋

American Robin:  "I picked up one of the sweet blueberries."😋

Chestnut-backed Chickadee:  "I like the suet all the year around."😋

Wetlands Scene

It's been hot.   Many photographers go out for early morning photos.  Nowadays I can get there aroud eight am, later than I used to.😅

Someone far away.

"I am Green Heron."🤩

Cedar Waxwing:  "We like to find berries here.  Yum, yum, yum."😋

American Robin:  "A good catch.  Berries are my favorite, too." 👍

Great Blue Heron:  "Now I am returning to the nest to check on my babies.😎(❁´◡`❁)

(There is a heron colony near here.)

Spring Arrival at the Wetlands

 Spring has arrived at the wetlands.

"I am American Robin.  I like many buds on the bush."🌸

"Redwing Blackbird has a musical song."😍

"Tree Swallows are returned and busy flying around."😍

Backyard Birds

The fuchsias are in bloom.  Anna's Hummingbird likes to drink the nectar.

"My favorite is roasted sunflower seeds."😍

Note:  Black-headed Grosbeak visited me after many years of  absence.  Many trees are gone due to development.  It is hard for them to come to my backyard.😥

American Robin

Most of the leaves have fallen after many rainy days.  But the beauty berries are still around.

"Now that all the sweet berries are gone, I have to try these tart berries."👀😓

"Better than getting hungry."😉

"There are many left.  I will come back."😁

 

American Robins

American Robins visit here in the backyard.  At this time of year, they like to eat my blueberries.  Now that I picked enough, I let them eat as they want.  Sometimes I drop enough berries on the ground for them.

"Thanks a million for the berries."

 

"I can see better on this pear tree."

"Sometimes I bring in a young one."

A Summer Scene

 After a month, we revisited the wetland.

"I haven't seen you lately.  It's nice to see you back."

"I hope I can catch a fish this morning."

"I was born this spring.   I am growing up fast."

A Hello from the Backyard

 We returned on a sunny day, but it has been rainy since.  This is Oregon and it is nice to be back.

"Welcome back!"

"Welcome back!"

"Welcome back.  I am new here (a juvenile American Robin)."

Many Things to Do in the Backyard

 American Robins often visit here in spring.

"I need to clean my feathers."

Lesser Goldfinches like to eat the seeds and drink water here.

"I get thirsty after eating."

My blueberry bushes have flowers now.

"I like to nibble the sweet flowers."

Beauty Berries for Snack

 In winter, the beauty berries are ripen.  The color is pretty, but the taste is on the sour side.

All the other berries are gone, so American Robins come and try to eat these in my backyard.

"These are a bit sour, but we still like them."

"The taste is ok.  After that I can take a 

quick bath here."

"I can nibble, too.  But I like the suet better."

Fall Returnees

The blueberry bushes are deep red in the backyard.  With the color in the background,  many birds are busy eating their favorite food here.

The suets are popular especially in the cold months.

"In the fall, I always find a suet here. Thanks a million."

The other day I saw many American Robins flying crisscross from one fir tree to another in the neighborhood.  They are back from the woods.  They like to hunt for worms on the wet lawn now that the berries are gone.

"You are right.  We are back."

Here comes a cute Chestnut-backed Chickadee who also returned from the woods.

"I am back, too.  I like your suet."

Little Help for Birds

Every year I send in a donation to The Cornell Lab of Ornithology.  The other day they sent me a little brochure, "7 Simple Actions" for a Bird-Friendly life.

So, I checked on whether I have followed their list.

1)  Make windows safer: Done. I placed some plastic stickers on our windows.
2) Keep cats indoors:  My cats stay indoor all the time for their safety.
3) Reduce lawn, plant natives:  Reduced the lawn some and  will buy more native plants.
4) Avoid pesticides:  No pesticides in my front and back yards.  For roses, I use dish soap to get rid of aphids.
5) Drink shade-grown coffee:  A new thing.  We will try this.
6) Protect our planet from plastic:  Recycle plastic bags around home.  Use recycle bags for shopping.
7) Watch birds:  I watch and take photos to understand them and spread the info on my blog.

One day, many American Robins landed here to peck on the fallen organic apples.  It is a good idea to keep some left on the ground for winter.

"Thank you for saving the apples for our winter food."

On a snowy day, many Mourning Doves landed searching for seeds.  I have never seen this many at one time.

"This morning the snow covered food, so we came here to eat seeds."

Time to Grow Up

 A Downy Woodpecker Dad was feeding a young.

"Thanks, Dad."

Here is a House Sparrow Mom with two young ones.

A young American Robin can pick up a ripen blueberry himself now.

"I am all grown up!"

Early Summer

It has been too hot for May.  The dry, hot weather can lead to a brush and forest fire.  

My blueberry bushes have many flowers.  Not as many as last year, but still it is good.  Bumble Bees and Honey Bees come over to collect the nectar.

House Finches like to eat off the blossoms, and I sometimes have to chase them out.

"I'd rather find a worm on the lawn.  Right now I am

 busy building my nest with the moss, mud, and dry grass."
