Second Snow

 The weather forecast said  the snow/ice would fall as the Alaskan chilly wind blew hard to our direction this weekend.   First day the streets became icy with less snow.  Next day it snowed more to cover the ice.  The highways were closed at some places.  Public transportation were mostly cancelled.  The mail truck and delivery trucks could not come.  And yet, rare birds came to see me.

"Hi, I am a Lincoln's Sparrow.  I wanted to 

find food where many little bird friends hung around."

Another rare visitor is a Varied Thrush.  She comes on a snowy day when food is hard to find.

Last year there was no snow so it did not show up at my place.  

"As always, I am very careful, but on a snowy day 

I know this place always has food for me."

Nice to Be Back

My blueberry bushes are getting the flowers; some are beginning to bloom.

Lincoln's Sparrows are here.

"I am slightly lighter colored than a Song 

Sparrow.  I come here for summer."

Once I saw two of them.

"We are two of us.  But I bet you can't tell which is which."

Right now he/she's been exploring the neighborhood after several months of absence.

"I don't remember this log being here."

Spring Is Coming

This Saturday the Chinese celebrate their New Year (arrival of spring by lunar calendar).  It is the Year of the Rooster.   

The birds seem to know the tough part of the winter season is over.  At the nearby wetland I could feel the commotions of the bird activities.

A Lincoln's Sparrow greeted me at the entrance.

The Trumpeter Swans were resting at a far away pond. 

The Red-wing Blackbirds were yodeling already.

The majestic Red-tailed Hawk was observing all over the pond.

A New Bird on the Block

Apple blossoms are now in bloom.  Both honey bees and bumble bees are buzzing around collecting honey here.

This summer bird showed up after my Song Sparrow left for the wooded area.  He/she looks like a Song Sparrow, but is lot lighter color with beige chest and thin streaks.

"Hi, do I look like a Lincoln's Sparrow?"

"Because of the light beige color and slim
streaks, I belong to the Lincoln's Sparrow."
