Changes in the Backyard

 March is still cold in Oregon.  But outside you can find flowers in bloom. 

Birds are getting busier.😄

"Do you know I am collecting the nest materials!!"🤔😍

"Do you know I came from south?

I am Orange-crowned Warbler, a summer bird here!"😁🤩

Red Leaves are Here

 The leaves are changing the color.

"I like the red leaves.  It is the season for suet munching."😉

"We see the red blueberry leaves.  But where is the suet?  Our favorite."🤔

"I do not like the suet.  I'd rather eat the seeds on the ground."👍

Moving to South

 The summer sky with clouds in August.  Last few days are a little cooler.

Birds are active in the backyard.  I saw three Red-breasted Nuthatches 

at the same time.😍

Fall migration has already started in Alaska.  I see Rufous Hummingbirds often visiting my backyard on the way to south.🎶🎶

"Hello.  I like your flowers and am on the way to Mexico."😎

Spring Backyard

 The old pear tree is in bloom.

A female Purple Finch stopped by.

"I come here every spring."😉

"I live here.  In spring, I come with my girlfriend."👍🌷💕

Global Warming

 This winter is warm and short.  We had only one snowfall, which melted away quickly.

"It is getting warm here. " 🌷🌸😄

 "I can eat bugs in the air.  I do not eat the suet on a nice day."🪰🐛

"I always like to eat the suet all the year around."😁☮️

Busy Backyard

 Many rainy days.  I can not go to the wetland, so I watch my backyard for bird visitors.

"We come here often," said one of the Bushtit flock.😉

"I see the frost on the ground," said one of the two Red-breasted Nuthatches.❄️⛄

"Ta, ta,... I have to take off quickly before another one of us shows up here."😁🎄

October Already

 The time passes fast.  It is already October.

"All the summer visitors are gone, but I stay here all the time."

"I am back from the woods, stay here for a month 

maybe, and take off to the coast where it will be a bit warmer in winter."

Camelia and Pear Blossoms

 My camelia is finally blooming in the backyard.

Pear Blossoms are in bloom, too.  Many birds like the nectar or the petals.

"I am a male House Finch.  We are visiting this neighborhood."

"Hi, I am a female House Finch.  I am visiting with an Oregon Junco."

"Hi, I am a Red-breasted Nuthatch.  I'd rather eat the suet here."

New Year's Greetings from Little Birds

 Happy New Year!  This is the year of Rabbit.

"Happy New Year.  I am a little Ruby-crowned Kinglet.  I will come here often."

"Happy New Year.  I live here.  I visit almost everyday."

"Happy New Year.  Please join in protecting my environment.  Thank you."

The Day is Longer Now

 One winter sunrise.  The day is getting longer now.

Cold Crisp Morning 👍

Red-breasted Nuthatch visits my backyard every day and all day long.

"Munch, munch, munch.  Busy...😋😋😋"

"I have to eat the suet at every meal.  Yeah!😍😍💪"

Fall Returnees

The blueberry bushes are deep red in the backyard.  With the color in the background,  many birds are busy eating their favorite food here.

The suets are popular especially in the cold months.

"In the fall, I always find a suet here. Thanks a million."

The other day I saw many American Robins flying crisscross from one fir tree to another in the neighborhood.  They are back from the woods.  They like to hunt for worms on the wet lawn now that the berries are gone.

"You are right.  We are back."

Here comes a cute Chestnut-backed Chickadee who also returned from the woods.

"I am back, too.  I like your suet."

Spring in the Backyard

The wind is still chilly, but the temperature is getting warm.  So I had the fountain out for birds to have a drink and take a bath.

"Hi, I am the first one to try it this spring."

"I just heard this water.  This year 

I will try to hang around here more often."

Around noon, a Ruby-crowned Kinglet stopped over on its way into the woods.

"I will see you next winter.  Ta, ta..."

One of the Friendliest Ones

This summer, a couple of Red-breasted Nuthatches came here many times during the day.  They like to peck on the suet. 

"Take a good shot."

Sometimes it likes to take a morning bath.

"I like a cool bath."

The other day, it was curious about the fountain water.

"Does this water taste better?"

My Friendly Bird

It's right in the middle of summer, the best season of the year in Oregon without much humidity.  It's like living in the high country.  The little bug thinks so, too, enjoying the sweet juice on the huge sunflower.

Red-breasted Nuthatches returned after a few weeks' absence.  Every time he flies in, I can hear his tin horn sounding loud.  This time he just landed on the suet right next me.

"Hi, there.  I am hungry for the suet. Be it in winter or summer, I like this food."

"Me  again.  I let you know I also like the sunflower seeds."

Christmas Visit

In western Oregon, we had a nice Christmas Day without a bit of rain.  Since the majority of people were taking the day off, it was quiet around the neighborhood.  Birds could sense the calmness of the day, which meant a safe day for them.  They came in a bunch and many birds showed up quite a few times during the day.

Anna's Hummingbird, male:  "How was your holiday?"

Downy Woodpecker:  "Pretty good.  I now come here for three meals a day!"

Red-breasted Nuthatch:  "Me, too."

Ruby-crowned Kinglet:  "Yum, yum, yum....delicious suet."

Bare Branches

Winter is the best season to observe birds because all the leaves are gone.  On a sunny day, I saw a Red-breasted Nuthatch flying into my backyard.  It makes a unique sound like tooting a tin horn.

"I come here everyday.  If you hear 

anyone tooting a horn, that's me."

"A warm sun is always welcome."
