Winter Scene

The winter weather in western Oregon is rainy.  Many people who just moved to this area find it depressing.  But once in a while we do have a clear sky.  People as well as birds appreciate it.

Birds come and feed during the rain breaks.

Bewick's Wren:  "I come here all the time."

Ruby-crowned Kinglet:  "I like the little seeds and the suet."

A Magnificent Flyer

Last weekend was sunny, so we took off to the nearby wetlands.  Many people were there, some strolling with a camera just like us,  others jogging or walking.  I noticed many Canadian Geese flying and chatting in a big flock.  Then a big bird was seen far away, which suddenly changed the course and darted towards me.  Who is that?  Through the camera lens, I could tell it is a Bald Eagle.

"Hey, you want to see me?"

I stood still and moved the camera slowly in the direction of the flight to take a photo.

"This is the demonstration flight for you."

He was fast disappearing to the other side of the reservoir.

"See you later."

Return of Predator

Lately I had not seen a hawk, maybe because they know I hang around outside on and off.  Then as I was slowly and quietly tiptoeing back into the inside of the house, a hawk jumped onto the fence from my veggie garden area.  It was a Cooper's Hawk.  I stood still and was  ready to take quick shots.  Since I was dressed in black, he did not notice me.

"Is there any more little birdies left here?"

"I'm still hungry."

"I need to see you.  Come on over..."

Hungry for a Fish

On a dry day, I saw a rainbow due to the moisture in the air with the sun's ray.

Then I saw a Great Blue Heron landing on my neighbor's rooftop.

"I have an appetite for a fish."

"I like this little pond here.  Surely I can get one."

Later I found out this heron made a visit for three consecutive days looking for a Koi fish.
