A Fight over the Favorite Suet

The winter favorite is the suet.  House Sparrows live here.  Downy Woodpeckers come from a nearby park.  But today these two met at the feeder at the wrong time.

House Sparrow, female:  "This is my suet!"
Downy Woodpecker, male:  "I came here first!"

After the quarrel, the Downy went to another feeder and met a male House Sparrow.

"Well, well, we can share this suet just fine.
No need to fight," said the House Sparrow.

Spring Tune

According to the lunar calendar, spring comes on Feb. 19 this year (Sheep Year).  Birds can tell that spring is near.  Yesterday I heard Bewick's Wren yodeling.  Later I saw a couple of wrens hopping around the suet feeder.

"Did you see my mate?  My lovely tune already attracted her!"

Pretty Oregon Junco

Dark colored birds are difficult to photograph.  But this day the sun was at the right angle.

"Thanks for a super photo.  Just show it to everyone."

Return of a Yellow Mask

Townsend's Warbler comes here often during the winter months.  He likes to nibble on a suet.  Today he was sharing it with an Oregon Junco.

Townsend's Warbler:  "This peanut suet is so...... good.
Squirrels are crazy about it.
We are lucky to have a little bit left here."

Oregon Junco:  "So scrumptious.  No wonder it goes so quickly."

"Madame!  Will you refill it again?"

New Year’s Greeting from a Rare Visitor

Early in the morning the sun was out.  Something reddish moved in the shaded area near the camelia bush and the evergreen.  It was a rare visitor to my delight.

"Late New Year's Greeting to you!  I like the bugs
around here.  I may show up more often."

Another New Year's Message

Just received another New Year's message from this tiny winter bird.

"Happy New Year to you!"

"Dance, dance, dance...  I'm so happy to find my favorite suet here."

"Wishing you a healthy and prosperous year !"

Happy Brightest New Year

Our New Year here was cold, but dry. One of my Anna's Hummingbirds came and posed for photos.

Here is it.

"Brightest New Year to you!
