A Rare Visitor

This bird rarely comes to my backyard.  This spring he/she showed up for just one day.  I took these photos through the window pane.

"Hi, I am a Hermit Thrush.  I get scared easily, so I don't want you to stare me."

"It's dark here, so I can hide."

Another Passerby

In spring, a Fox Sparrow sometimes visit my backyard on the way into the woods.

Several days ago, I noticed one.

"I am different from other sparrows.  I have
triangular spots all over the front."

"Can you see me better?"

"I am washing all over now before taking off to the forest."

Spring Scene

Spring at the wetland.

A couple of Tree Swallows decided to nest around here.

"We are going to make a nest nearby."

One Killdeer wanted me to follow her.  There must be her nest nearby and she wanted me to stay away from it.

"I just don't want you to hang around my nest."

Majority of waterfowls are gone to the north.  Some Greater Scaups were still paddling in a pond.

"I can still take time before moving up to the north."

Change of the Seasons

A female Rufous Hummingbird showed up here the other day.  She arrived here a few weeks after a male had arrived earlier.

On the way into the woods, a male Townsend stopped over.  His jaw is all dark in comparison with a female with a small dark spot which used to come here everyday during the cold months.

" Yummy suet!"

"Look at my jaw.  It's all black.  I am a boy."
