Ducks Are Back

The first iris blossom of the year.  The flowers for Children's Festival, May 5th, in Japan.

One day, a male Mallard Duck, was on top of my neighbor's roof looking for his partner.

He was usually with her while she was busy gobbling up food.  But it's safe around here.

"I am down here ready to eat at the usual spot."

Cowbird's Strange Habit

More summer birds are back.

A recent sighting is the Cowbird.  They are known to lay an egg at someone else's nest.  One of the bird journals reported that, unless the cowbird egg was duly taken care of,  the cowbird will return for its revenge of the egg being neglected.

"I'm thinking about where to lay an egg pretty
soon.  Do you know any kind bird?"

Sometimes a male Cowbird comes together.

"I am a male Cowbird.  I am brown headed."

The rain is back before the real summer settles.  The wisteria looks gorgeous with sweet scent in my backyard.

A Cutest Returnee

Early in the morning I was watching the House Sparrows chirping and feeding.  Then I sensed someone was watching me.

"It's me!  I've seen you last summer.  I am back."

A female Black-capped Grosbeak returned with  her partner who has shown up earlier.

"I like this backyard because it is safe."

"Now I'll get down to a feeder for more seeds."

A Summer Greeting

After all those rainy days, suddenly yesterday turned to be a summer day.  Birds knew about the arrival of this hot weather.   I saw several summer birds.

The first surprise was a male Black-headed Grosbeak.  He was busy munching the seeds as he did last summer.

"Yum, yum.  I like your seeds."

Then a bright yellow bird crossed in front.  Who could it be?  Someone yellow with a black cap.

"Hi, I am a male Wilson's Warbler.  I was here last year."

Then, a couple of Orange-crowned Warblers are back for blueberry blossoms.

"I am busy with the berry nectar this time.  It's so sweet.
I may like it better than the pear blossoms.  I can keep on
drinking till the evening."
